Recruit Profile
Im underestimated by most because of my height... then they see me jump! I'm an explosive and versatile scholar athlete with a deep love for volleyball.

I started playing indoor volleyball when I was 9 at the Katy, TX YMCA. Our team went undefeated. I was hooked. Since that season, Ive worked extremely hard on becoming an exceptional athlete.

Every summer I would train by playing either sand or grass volleyball with my father. I truly believe training in the sand has helped me tremendously indoors. There was never a league for my age group in my area I could join to play with kids my age. I didn't get discouraged. One on one trainings have helped my defense techniques. I have court awareness.

In 7th grade, I realized I was never going to be the tallest on my team, but I still loved to hit. So, I started working hard on my vertical leap and approach so I could stay an outside hitter. I trained at school, at club, and at home. My favorite thing to do (outside of playing) was watching and studying college volleyball matches on YouTube.

By 8th grade, I was a six rotation player (Briscoe Junior High in Richmond, TX) and was nominated as MVP at the end of the season. I was also a six rotation player and later nominated as MVP on my club volleyball team (Texas One Volleyball 14s) that same year. Ive been nominated as MVP my freshman and sophomore year and managed to stay as a six rotation player on my club and high school teams. In between all these indoor volleyball accomplishments, I've continued to train in the sand.

Ive earned the accolades and six rotation spots partly to do with talent but more so because of my hard work ethic.
I try to push myself to be the best competitor possible. Its become an addiction. I still practice all the time. I still watch film. Im still an outside hitter. Im still six rotation player.

Now that I've found beach volleyball in my area, I have become a lot more knowledgeable and confident to work and find strategies to defeat my opponent. If I am not indoors, I can be found playing ball in the sand.

I also push myself in the classroom. I finished last semester with straight As. A personal goal of mine is to finish my junior and senior year with straight As.

I've known Kalani prior to beach training as an indoor volleyball player for 6 years. She's an all- around player, that has been underestimated. But that has never stopped her from growing and proving to her opponents that she deserves to be respected on the court. Her overall athletic ability made her transition into beach volleyball very easy....she's a natural, with swinging power, smart reads, and quick, tough defensive plays. Kalani's very coachable and her heart, competitive spirit and love for the game shows. Kalani is and would be a valuable player for any coach to have on their team/ program.

Kalani is an absolute beast on the sand - she flies around the court and explodes to her digs. She converts a high percent of her transition attacks as she maintains great balance and timing throughout her approach, seeing and reading the defense well. Kalani is extremely coachable and will immediately try to implement your suggestions or feedback - she’s hungry to continue improving and has been putting in the time both in the gym and on the sand. Any coach would be lucky to have Kalani in their program.
